The Motability Scheme
Working in partnership for your mobility needs.
The Motability Scheme was set up in 1978 to help provide its members the freedom and independence that so many of us take for granted.
The Scheme allows anyone in receipt of a higher rate mobility allowance to use it to lease a car, scooter, powered wheelchair or Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle.
Over 600,000 people enjoy the benefits of being part of the Motability Scheme. So far, Motability have helped over 4 million people get mobile.
There are two organisations which work together to deliver the Motability Scheme. They are Motability Operations and Motability, the Charity.
The company was set up in 1978 to deliver the Motability Scheme. Under contract to the Charity, they handle the finance, administration and maintenance of Motability vehicles and products.

Motability, the Charity
The Charity was set up in 1977 to help disabled people with their personal mobility. They give grants to disabled people who can't afford the mobility solution they need. Motability's responsibility is to oversee the direction and performance of the Scheme.
